Life full of Blessings from above

This is a video ppt that I made for my father's birthday party.

I enjoyed the process of looking thru' all the pictures, and of course I want to pick everyone of it. After all, my father is blessed with the support of family, friends and brothers & sisters from church. The most of all is God that gives him strength to enjoy and share.

"Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay." Psalm 16:9-10

Praise Him for He is good..........

In the garden of number 9

We spend a day in number 9's house last Saturday.
Their family lived in Saratoga. It is a Spanish style house. Inside the house, there is a garden full of different fruits and vegetables. It is fruitful.

Oldest mother-in-law
Oldest father-in-law

Here is #1 and #9 talking

#3 and #8
Sunflower sister

Look at the delicious Asian pear, yummy........
Wait a minute, what is
Tommy doing up in the tree.......

Tommy saw a pretty ripe Asian pear,
he finally got it.

"....God made all kinds of tree grow out of the ground-trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. The Lord God took the man and put him ..... to work it and take care of it." Genesis 2:8-9, 15

This garden of #9 reminds me of God's original plan for human is to take care of his beautiful creation. #9 really takes good care of this garden of his.

It is a blessing to have a family gathering and enjoy each other's present.

A Blessed Day together

This is our 1st Family Picnic, in the Frontier Park of Pacifica.
We can see God is providing us with a wonderful place, with bright, sunny and warm weather.

Everyone seems to have fun with each other, the kids or doggies enjoy it !!!

Image of our Heavenly Father

In my younger years, I did not have a very positive image of my father. I viewed him as passive, not decisive, not musculine, always as followers. The father figure he protrayed did not match the one I am hoping for.

"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and prayer to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. " Matthew 6:6

Praise the Lord, once again He reminds me of a positive father image.......
- our Heavenly Father is a personal God,
- He is a soft and caring God,
- He provides protection & supplies for our needs,
- He teaches us responsibility and give us courage to live everyday of our life.

Jesus told me that our Heavenly Father is our father. No matter
how our earthly father protrayed, we have our Father in Heaven that we can rely, depend and talked to. He definately will listen to us if we can pray to Him quietly in our room, He will reward us accordingly.

感謝耶穌告訴我要如何與父神相遇, 不是父神需要隱秘, 是我需要安靜, 才能清心見你.

進我的內屋, 關上門; 父啊, 我在這裡, 請向我說話.......

The Road to Renewal

Redwood Glen is the retreat site this year, it only takes us 1 1/2 hr. drive, very convenient.

It is late Friday, everyone is tired and hungry, still everyone is patiently waiting for the orientation meetin. There is a lot of excitment within us.

We are only eating in the cafeteria, we are also having BBQ in the woods.

Everyone
is enjoying
each other in singspiration.

We have a time for meditation in the morning to enjoy, reflect and converse with God's creation

At night, we have campfire to get close to each other.

The Road to Renewal is the theme for this retreat.
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transfored by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is his good, pleasing and perfect will."
Living Sacrifice, simply means that I do not do what the flesh wants to do. It is a decision that I have to make everyday. Am I conforming to the pattern of the world or the other way round. Do I have conviction to most circumstances, but no action to support or repent? Am I serving to please God or please man? I pray that because of all the goodness & blessings from God, I can commit myself totally to Him. Mind renewal is the real secret to living holy and pleasing to God. So I pray that the Lord will help me be obedient and serve Him without any reservation.

The Lord is my Shepherd

"THE LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul, He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake." Psalm 23:1-3

In years, the Lord is always my shepherd, guiding and providing for me. Out of many busy schedule, the Lord did provided us with memorable family time, sharing time, relaxing time, sightseeing time, shopping time and laughing time in last week's vacation. The timing is just right, just like the sheep that always enjoying the green pastures and quiet waters, I also wish the good times can go on and on...

What will the sheep treasure most? Green pastures; quiet waters or the Shepherd himself?

After we returned home that night, I had to face a very tramatic situation. Tommy had to take care of a dead battery of his car that park on the street and I have to move all the luggages back home first. As I step into the house, little T.J. came to me and said, "They are yelling". It started with Teddy and Melissa arguing. After a while, everyone (Teddy, Melissa, Jenifer and Rafael) are yelling at each other from downstairs to the street. Later on, a fight between Teddy, Jenifer and Rafael started. I can only found myself standing on the sidewalk and yell,"stop fighting", of course it didn't help. Eventually everyone calm down when the police come by. Little T.J. was crying when he saw the police and Teddy went out of the house. Then Tommy returned after the police left.

During the whole incident, I can only called out for help to our Lord. After everything settle that night, the devotion from Psalm 23 surface in my mind. As sheep to the Shepherd, what will I treasure most? the good and joyful time that the Lord provided or the Lord himself.

Praise the Lord for turning my focus back to Him. My surroundings and situation may change, but only the Lord stays the same and always be with me during the most difficult time. In these two days, the peacefulness return. Teddy requested to have dinner together on Tuesday. So everyone was at the table for dinner and they were talking to each other. Jenifer initated to treat Teddy & Melissa, Tommy and Horatio for lunch on Thursday. They seemed to have a good time.

I thank the Lord for answering our prayer. I pray that when my focus is always on my Lord; even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, because the Lord are with me; his rod and his staff will comfort me.

Amen.

On Water Pond

It is a story of a duck mama and 3 lovely ducklings (bravely, grumply and slipply). The duck daddy suddenly disappear after the restaurant van drove by one night.
Grumply said, " I haven't seen daddy for a while, where is he, no one play with me now."
Bravely said," Let's go mama, we can all go and look for daddy"

So duck mama and the 3 ducklings left their home. They have walked thru'
the malls, and roadways. Seeing strange faces and busy parking lots. They are hungry and thirsty. Finally, duck mama heard the sounds of the water fall. "There must be water somewhere" "But where is it"
After crossing the pedestrian roadway, duck mama saw the giant pond. Duck mama said," Let me try out the water first" Bravely anxiously reply,"Lead me in, lead me in!" and so he jump.
Grumply wants to jump, but frighten. "But mama, slipply is missing" "We need to look for her first"

Finally, Grumply met up with Slipply and they are trying to find ways to get into the pond.
"I am scared, Grumply" said Slipply. "What should we do now" "Let's run, the yellow hat is coming after us" " We need to escape from him"

"Slipply, you go around the other side and I will go forward" " We will meet up with Bravely and mama" "Run, Slipply, run......." "Oh, I am falling, it is too slippery" "Oh, no, help Grumply, help mama, help....." Unfortunately, Slipply slipped down the drain into another new world.

Eventually, the yellow hat turns out to be a good person. He pick up Grumply and led him to the pond with duck mama.

"Wow, it is fun " "The water is just right" " I wish Slipply can be here" "May be another yellow hat will lead Slipply back " "Let's quack together so Slipply can hear us" "Quack, Quack, Quackery, Quack"

Our Song

I was really touched by the Wedding ceremony of Calvin and Tiffany. The following song always pop up in my mind after the ceremony.

"Our Song"

Love is very patient and kind.
Never jealous or envious.
Never boastful or proud. Never selfish or rude.
Love does not demand its own way.
Love doesn't easily hurt.
Love does not renew wrongs, which have been forgiven.
Love has no end to its trust.
Love has no fading on its hope.
All the special gifts and powers; from God will someday come to end,
but love goes on forever.

It is beautiful in life to see Calvin and Tiffany clasping clean hands and pure hearts in the path of marriage. Can there be anything more beautiful than this young love?

The answer is yes, there is a more beautiful picture:

It is the spectacle of an old man and an old woman finishing their journey together on that path.

Their hands are gnarled, but still clasped;

Their faces are seamed, but still radiant;

Their hearts are physically bowed and tired, but still strong with love and devotion for one another. It is a blessing from our Heavenly Father.

"We love because he first loved us" 1Jn 4:19

Friendship

"A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out."

"A friend is someone who is there for you when he'd rather be anywhere else."

"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."

"Everyone hears what you say. Friends listen to what you say. Best friends listen to what you don't say."

"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:13-15

Jesus calls us to be His friend. By coming to him, we can finally find relief from the concerns that weigh on us.

Praise the Lord, you do not want us just to work for you as servant.

Praise the Lord, you want to develop a relationship with us, you want us to be your partner in life.

Praise the Lord, you have given me time to cultivate this relationship, I can spend more time with you on a daily basis.

Praise the Lord, you have shown kindness toward me as I draw near to you.

Praise the Lord, you are a friend who strengthens me thru' prayers, blesses me with love and encourages me with hope.

Amen

Faith and Doubt

Doubt sees the obstacles,
Faith sees the way;
Doubt sees the blackest night,
Faith sess the day;
Doubt dreads to take a step,
Faith soars on high;
Double question, "Who believes?"
Faith answers, "I"

It wasn't a very good day for me yesterday. When I got off work at 5:30pm, I quickly walk up the hill for my car. It disappeared, where might it be. I was frantic for a short while. Then I went to the police station to inquire for more information regarding my car. Praise the Lord, it wasn't stolen. My car was tolled because of blocking the driveway. I need to retrieve it back in another place. Praise Him again, I can catch a ride from Walter to go down to the impound area. Finally I got my car back.

I remember yesterday thru' the daily devotion, I have read how Jesus calms the storm. Although it was windy and stormy on the outside, the disciples were frantic and anxious, but Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. When Jesus was waken by the disciples, he asked " Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"

Yesterday God prepares me for this little incident, although it is not a big storm, but it still created some waves in my mind. Thru' this, it reminded me to dwell in him daily, so that my faith will be preserved daily.

Praise the Lord!

Channel of Blessings

Last Friday was Calvin & Tiffany's farewell party. We had a very good turn out. Many brothers and sisters attended.
According to the scripture, Jesus said" Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matt 5:16 Knowing Calvin, he is not only the light to his small group, but a channel of blessings to the all brothers and sisters in the fellowship. Praise God for bringing Calvin and Tiffany into our lives.

Temptation in our lives

When I examine myself, I find that I am very vulnerable to the daily Temptation. I lack the will power to resist shortcut solutions to my needs. I lack the patience to allow God to work in a slow, gentle way, but trying to control by myself, to compel other to help accomplish the causes I believe in. I am willing to trade away certain freedoms for the guarantee of safety and protection. I am willing to trade away even more for the chance to realize my ambitions.

As I am doing my devotion regarding the story of Jesus and Satan in the desert, Jesus resistance against Satan's temptations set a good reminder for me as I face my own.

The temptation in the desert reveals a significant difference between God's power and Satan's power. Satan has the power to coerce, to overpower, to force obedience and to destroy. On the contrast, God's power is internal and noncoercive. I need to make decision to commit to transform gently from inside out.

In the story of Noah, God saw how corrupt the earth had become, He would like to put an end to all people and to destroy both them and the earth. So the Lord told Noah to make an ark of cypress wood. The most important is to : "....make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out" Gen 6:14 As the storm is coming, the Lord wants the ark to be ready for use. The Lord emphasized the importance how the cypress wood need to be done, it need to coat each rooms with pitch inside out will protect the water from leaking & mineral to damage the ark. It will save us and serve as a tool to help us float and be rescued.

Lord, I pray for your help, to prepare me for all temptations that I don't have strenght to resist. Help me to coat my mind, heart, and mouth with you words. Help me tranform myself into a piece of coated cypress wood for others to hang on when storm arise.

Thanks You Lord!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus

Yesterday, I went to the Bay Area Revival meeting. The Lord did speak to me through his servant. God is still using a 80+ year old person, with asthma and other health related problem to preach and his sermon is still forceful with enlightment and strength. Praise the Lord!

One of the sermon point talks about the root to the problem the world or America is facing. "America is deviating from God" "We have compromised our believe to what the world is doing" Just as Paul said in Romans 6:1-2 , ".....Shall we continue in sin, that grace might abound?..God forbid. How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?" it is a question addressing to all of us. As Christian, how can we take advantage of God's Grace and continue to live a life that is not pleasing to God. Lord have mercy on us.

In closing, the speaker reminds us of God's love and mercy that will embrace us in this difficult times. But we have to turn our eyes upon Jesus and seek for His comfort, grace and glory.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim.
In the light of His glory and grace.

Blessings........

Carry Each Others' Burden

2Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, 5for each one should carry his own load. (Galatians 6:2-5)

In the couples' group last night, as we are discussing about carrying each's others burden, I was thinking of the burdens that Tommy and I had. For all 22+ years, Tommy's burden is the family and the children. His first marriage came to an end after 5 years and leaving two kids (5 and 2 yr. old) with him to care for. When I come into the picture his burdens became mine. It wasn't easy. We have sweet memories with our whole family in church when they were young, family vacations in Disneyland, Yellow Stone Park etc. On the other hand, we have stormy situations with runaway teenagers, and juvenile that always have trouble with the law. We definately cannot go through all these years without God's embracing us.

Now they are adults, working and one with kids of his own. Our burden seem to be lighter, but our hearts are laden seeing that they still are running away from God.

I pray that God will watch over them.
I pray that the Holy Spirit will always lead them away from the wrongs.
I pray that that the Lord will soften their hearts and return to YOU.

Amen.

A prayer before my work start

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers." Psalm 1:1-3

Father in Heaven,
I praise you because YOU are the real BOSS in my work.
I praise you because YOU are the Lord of all.
I praise you because YOU are the provider for all.
I praise you because YOU always keep me in line, no matter my work is being recognized or not I would not be discouraged.
I praise you because YOU are the one in control and you have granted me joy and peace.

Help me stay away from the counsel of the wicked or ways of the sinners.
Help me not be boastful or proud towards successful deeds or being tempted to extent the power of influence within my role.
Help me not to judge, because I will be judged.

Teach me to stand firm in the Word of God, mediate your word day and night and to hold on to your standard daily.

Day by Day, and with each passing moment, help me bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit and become a channel of blessings to my co-worker, my volunteers and whoever I have met today.

Amen.

Another beginning; Another journey

All thru' the weekend, I am overwhelmed with my own graduation and that of Jackson. In seeing so many supportive faces of our brothers and sisters, I know God is among us and the bonding is strong.

Actually I am glad that I can gone through this diploma program. It is one way that God use to rebuild my Christian life and to know how to serve Him better. To pick up the studies was challenging. After two and a half year, I finally finished it.
Now what's next for me..... I don't think I am ready to go to all nations right now, but I willing to open up myself and let God lead the way. I will just be faithfully work on making disciples in wherever I am; teaching what is good; comfort those that are in needed.
In the ceremony, the president of seminary, Dr. Jeff Iorg stated that we have to pray for bigger vision for ourselves. I prayed that God will be able to use both training (health and spiritual)He provided for me . "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" (James 1:17).
I thank the Lord for His love. I thank the Lord for all the blessings He provided. I will be patiently waiting for the bigger purpose He has for me.
Amen.

This is the first encounter between Sugar and this Chih-Wa-Wa. How curious and eager she wants to be friend with the little one.

It is the Memorial date weekend get together. Praise the Lord, it is the first time that Melissa's mother was introduced to us. Cousin Ken & Lupita, Wai Fun and Keung Gor was here. Although Teddy is not around during dinner, praise the Lord it is a good start for rebuilding the relationship among our family again.

I believe that God's hands is in my lives. Although my circumstances changed; my season of life changed; God tells me, "I the Lord do not change" (Malachi 3:6) "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" (James 1:17)

Thank God for each blessings He place in my life, I will continue to place myself and family in His care and I trusted that the salvation will come upon Teddy and Melissa, Jenifer and Rafael, little Terrance, and other family members.

Building God into Our Lives

After last week's sermon, I am still thinking about the incident of the Miss California contest. We are in the a world that are surrounded with people that are without God in their hearts. The whole U.S. seems on the verge of losing its unique identity. The identity that we stated more than 200 years ago,"In God We Trust". The Christian belief, and religious heritage is slipping away.

It is scary to think about it. Can I stand firm in this surrounding? Can I be bold and courageous to express my religious belief in front of all the non-belivers? Our Lord always give me answer thru' His Word in the Bible.

Daniel is an excellent example that God show me thru' His Book. His commitment to God remained strong and steady even though Daniel is in the foreign land, rule by non-Christian. Daniel politely refused the food and drinks that was used for sacrificed to idols from the guard. Later, when Daniel read some strange writing on a wall, he turns down the gifts and rewards offered from an ungodly king because of his devotion to God. Finally, Daniel survives a night on the verge of death in the lion's den. He doesn't complain about the king created this deadly experience, but instead honors the king and focuses on God. Daniel builds God into his lives. God is the priority and no others.

Unlike the people of Israel and Judah, for years they let other people take priority over their worship of God and attention to his Word. To a point they almost lost the knowledge of the law and God's Word. Not until Nehemiah helps to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and Ezra, the priest recited the Word of God back to them. God didn't force himself on them, rather he let them walk away and stay away for a long time. Only by experiencing life without God would they remember who they really needed and wanted.

What about me? Who and what have I built into my life?
I am building security around me and forget that you are the one who provides peace.
I am building control over my family, my ministry, my work and forget that you are in control.
I am building walls for protection and forget that you are the shepherd that protect His sheep.
I am building relationship for a few and forget you are the love for all.

Lord, thanks for reminding me :
to rebuild my life, to rebuild this temple of yours
to put priority into your own Words
to make appointment with you as often as my daily meals.
to treat your Word as a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

When I sing “this is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it,” I will recognize the fact that myLord is in control of my experience each day. My life is rebuild with God in it. What a blessing it is!!!

A Time for Everything

It is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

This Sunday is our Senior Appreciation Sunday at church, so this is .......

a time to build, a time to laugh, a time to embrace, a time to keep, a time to love and a time to speak.

Keys to Becoming Wise

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Ps 111:10). It helps when we developed a close relationship with the Lord. More, to follow God's guidance for living should be the first step in moving from unwise to wise.

In the Book of Proverbs King Solomon also affirms that , " the Lord gives wisdom" (Pro 2:6) The key in gaining wisdom, the first involves humility. "With humility comes wisdom" (Pro 11:12) . Solomon also writes about accepting advice and correction: "Wisdom is found in those who take advice" (Pro 13:10) The way we interact with people in our lives provides another key to wisdom. " A wise man's heart guides his mouth" (Pro 16:23)

Lord I definately needs your guidance to unlock the door to wisdom when.......
you see that I am always promoting myself,
I am concerning about elevating myself in the eyes of others,
I aim to determine my own destiny rather than letting God determine it,
I actually tell myself, "I'm humble",
I am not willing to accept advice and criticism from others,
I just casually spouting off with negative words.

Lord I need to place my energy and commitment in you. I need to place my interest and focus back on you. In doing this I can move further toward wisdom.

Blessings....

Losing Sight of God

King Solomon, is famous for his wisdom and wealth. He had built the most magnificent place for God to dwell. The Lord loves him and has chosen to bless Israel through Solomon's leadership.

The Lord said the king must not acquired great number of horses for himself and not take many wives, because his heart will be led astray. Solomon would not listen, he imports horses from Egypt. He takes 700 wives and nearly half as much mistresses. In addition, he accumulates more silver and gold than any other kings.

When the nation grows wealthy, it will lose its sense of need for God. They will turn to its own power rather than to God for victory. When the king surrounds himself with foreign wives, many of whom remain loyal to false gods, his heart will turn toward their loyalties.

Solomon, who had heard from God himself and possessed more wisdom than anyone else, was gradually drifting "back that way again". It is easy to lose sight of God: when I am getting comfortable in this world; when I am admiring my ability in work; when I am enjoying the growth in ministry; when I am indulging on God's gifts in me and begin to believe that it is solely because of me not God Himself; when I am counting on my good health; God alerts me.....

Father, thanks for watching over me, help me to be an obedient child of yours. Help me not to go back to a self-satisfying mode. Teach me actively seeking your present in my daily walk with you.

Amen.

Enjoying His Presence

Psalm 139 is one of my favorite psalm. It said:

O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways
Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord
You hem me in - behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. ...........
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

God is always with us. He's always focused on us, always thinking about us, always aware of what we're doing, thinking and feeling. Never for a second does he turn his attention from us. And all of his attention flows from a burning, passionate love for us that never grows cold, never tires.

The Psalm does reveals the intimacy and reassurance that God provides for me. It is a step of faith, a path to lead me from an obsession with myself to the actual presence of God.

Only, if I make God the center of my attention, I can be in a continual love relationship with Him that will give me perspective on everything in life and fill the deepest needs of my soul.

Lord, help me understood and experience your constant presence in whatever circumstance I am encountering.

Amen.

The Goodness of God

Psalm 103:

Praise the Lord, O my Soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name ......

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.

He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.

As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord's love is with those who fear him, and his righteouness with their children's children-with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.

I really like this Psalm, especially when we sing thru' songs. It remains me of the unmeasurable love of God. Two weeks ago, Cumberland celebrate its 115 years of ministry among the Chinatown community.

Wow what a blessings for me to share the fond memories of the past, present and future.

The picture has a lot of representation.

Although not all the memories are positive, just like what the Psalm reviews, the church might have dark times. The Lord understands our weakness and transformed all those dark times into history and help the congregations to pull through. God has always kept his promise to love His church and people and this is a sign of God's grace to Cumberland.

Praise Him for His Goodness!
